Posted on

Are you excited because you are going river rafting for the first time? If you want to make sure that you have a comfortable ride on the river, it is important for you to be well prepared do you will know what to expect. The article below will give you a few tips that you should consider when you go river rafting.

1. Take a Few Swimming Lessons

Although you will be wearing a life jacket while you are river rafting, it is a good idea to take a few lessons if you don't know how to swim. You must keep in mind that a river is in constant motion and the pressure of the water can cause you to drift away in a fast manner. If the raft happens to capsize or you fall into the water, the right swimming skills can help you maintain better control in the water. Make sure that the lesson includes swimming on your back, as it is safe to keep your feet up when in a river to avoid them getting stuck between rocks or plants at the bottom.

2. Wear Attire That Fits the Occasion

It is important for you to wear attire that will not restrict your ability to feel at full force if you end up in the water. For instance, you don't want to wear jeans because the material can put a lot of weight on your legs when drenched in water. It is a good idea to wear a wet suit because it is designed for the water. However, wearing clothing that is made out of a light fabric is okay too.  You should also try to wear water shoes, as they are designed for walking on slippery surfaces and drying fast.

3. Items For Protection Against the Sun

One of the main things that you should pack is sunscreen for protection against ultraviolet radiation, especially if you will be in the sun all day. Even if it is predicted to be a cloudy day with you go river rafting, ultraviolet radiation will still be present. You should also bring sunglasses in case the sun is shining bright, just make sure they are able to protect against ultraviolet radiation as well. Attach a strap to your sunglasses to make sure they don't fall off of the raft. Plan your first river rafting trip so you can enjoy the experience.
